Sinus lift procedures

Abstract:

The course on sinus floor elevation will provide basic knowledge on anatomy of the maxillary sinus and on adjacent structures. It will give the participant an overview on historical development of different surgical techniques for optimization of bony quality and quantity in the posterior maxilla. Factors influencing the proper patient selection will be presented and discussed as well as indications and contraindications for different techniques. Two main techniques – lateral window sinus lift and transalveolar sinus lift – will be presented step-by-step and in details. Briefly, modifications of them will also be addressed. Furthermore, most frequent and most serious complications will be illustrated, including tips and tricks to prevent and to resolve them. Course will provide theoretical framework, live surgeries and hands-on exercises. Participants experience in basic oral surgery and implantology is recommended.

Lectures:

• Anatomical and biological basis for the sinus floor elevation
• Evolution of the surgical techniques
• Indications and contraindications: how to choose the most appropriate method
• Surgery step-by-step: providing anesthesia, formation and elevation of the flaps, creation of the bony window and preparation of the implant bed, elevation of the Schneiderian membrane, application of biomaterials, identifying and resolving the intraoperative complications, managing the postoperative period
• Future trends: minimally invasive techniques, endoscopically assisted sinus-floor surgery

Live Surgery:

• Patient presentation: lateral window and transalveolar sinus floor elevation
• Surgery with intraoperative discussion with participants
• Surgery analysis and post-op discussion

Hands-On:

• Flap-design
• Lateral window preparation
• Creation of the subantral space
• Introduction of biomaterials into subantral space
• Placing the implants
